What are Arvigo® Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy?

The Arvigo® Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy combine modern science with traditional healing and wisdom to produce a holistic path to physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Dr. Rosita Arvigo, DN, has lived and practiced in Central America for over 30 years. She developed these techniques after apprenticing with Don Elijio Panti, one of the last of the Traditional Maya Shaman in Central America. The technique combines practical anatomy, physiology, herbology and naprapathy (study of the ligaments, joints and muscles), with Ancient Maya healing techniques to address common female and male complaints. The technique relieves congestion and blockages to improve the flow of chi (energy) and fluids of the circulatory, lymphatic and nervous systems. Improved flow helps prevent the progression of chronic disease symptoms. Arvigo® Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy (ATMAT) is a non-invasive, external technique of massage therapy.

This system of health care promotes optimum health and well-being by using external massage techinques to guide abdominal organs into their proper positions. ATMAT improves organ function by releasing physical congestion and holding patterns from the abdomen. The therapy is effective for both men and women. What Should I Expect In An ATMAT Session Perhaps, for the first time, your abdomen will receive the much needed attention it deserves. Allow yourself at least 2 hours of time for the initial session. Subsequent sessions last about 1.5 hours. Please download an ATMAT intake questionnaire in PDF format and fill it out prior to your appointment. The questionnaire is designed to provide a comprehensive review of your personal history & health care needs. You will receive instruction in ATMAT Self Care techniques. Self Care is practiced at home to enhance the benefits of the treatment provided by your therapist. Your abdomen, lower back, sacrum, and legs are treated thoroughly during the course of the massage.

Additionally, Rainforest Herbal Remedies and other natural products are available that may enhance the effects of the Arvigo treatment and may be indicated based on the lifestyle consultation. Follow-up care depends on individual goals and the treatment results. You and I will work together to ensure that your health care needs are met either through ATMAT techniques or, when necessary, by referral to additional health care providers. ATMAT can be performed either with loose clothing, or with little or no clothing.

Depending on your comfort level, the abdomen may be treated with a drape (sheet) over the skin.
